Search Virginia Corrections Release Records

To find someone released from the Virginia Department of Corrections after an Appomattox County case, search the statewide custody and supervision system and then confirm the event with the state record. No state prison was identified inside Appomattox County. The state system becomes relevant after a jail-to-prison transfer or while a person remains on Virginia community supervision. A prison release can lead to parole, probation, other post-release supervision, or full discharge. The public locator is useful within that scope, but it is not promised as a permanent archive after all state authority ends.

Appomattox VADOC Release Scope

The Virginia Department of Corrections is a statewide prison and community-supervision system. It is not the Appomattox County jail. No VADOC prison was found within Appomattox County. VADOC enters the custody path when a local or regional jail transfers a person into state authority, when an incarcerated person is held under VADOC authority, or when someone released from prison remains on probation, parole, or another form of state supervision.

The official Inmate and Supervisee Locator covers people in VADOC institutions, probationers and parolees supervised by district offices, institutional-hospital placements, some local or regional jail prisoners under VADOC authority, and CCAP participants. That mixed scope explains why a person can be outside prison yet still appear. A district result may show ongoing state supervision after physical release. Full discharge means the controlling state custody and supervision have ended.

Appomattox Jail Versus VADOC Release

An Appomattox or BRRJA release entry can mean the person was transferred to VADOC. That event ends the local or regional custody period but does not mean the person entered the community. The BRRJA transfer record should identify the state destination. VADOC then becomes the correct source for institutional status, projected state dates, parole or probation district placement, and final state release.

Sheriff Robert N. Richardson’s office controls records created by the Appomattox Sheriff. BRRJA controls records created at ACADC and its other regional centers. VADOC controls its state prison and supervision records. A sound chronology may use all three: the Sheriff transport, the BRRJA transfer, and the VADOC state status. Each document proves only the custody segment created by that agency.

Important: “Released to VADOC” means the jail released the person to state custody. It is not a community release.

The Appomattox County release search covers the full local-to-state chain. On the VADOC page, keep the conclusion state-specific: incarcerated in a VADOC institution, released to District 24 supervision, or fully discharged from VADOC authority.

Appomattox VADOC Release Dates

A projected date is a computation made before release. An actual date is documented after the event. VADOC allows disclosure of specified projected parole-eligibility, mandatory-parole, or good-time release dates as of an inquiry. The exact label on a live detail should be preserved. Do not silently rename it or treat it as a completed release.

Virginia sentence calculations vary with offense, conviction date, statutory exclusions, credit regime, conduct, program status, pretrial credit, court corrections, and consecutive or concurrent terms. Earned credits can be forfeited or restored. A detainer can change the destination even when the custody date arrives. Parole action can also change the path. These factors make a projected date provisional rather than a promise.

Date or eventHow to read it
Projected or anticipated dateA current calculation that can change
Parole eligibility dateA point for parole consideration, not automatic release
Order of ReleaseState document authorizing and recording the actual release path
District assignmentEvidence of ongoing community supervision after release
DischargeEnd of the VADOC authority described by the controlling record

The Virginia Parole Board controls eligible discretionary parole decisions. A grant authorizes a release path; VADOC’s final record confirms the physical custody event. Probation is court-ordered supervision. Parole is conditional release from imprisonment. Neither term should be used as a substitute for the actual date on the state release document.

Appomattox District 24 Release Supervision

Appomattox County is served by VADOC Probation and Parole District 24 in Farmville. The office also serves Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, and Prince Edward Counties. A locator result assigned to District 24 can corroborate that a person is in the community under VADOC supervision rather than housed in a state prison. It does not establish the exact time the institution processed release.

The official directory capture comes from the VADOC facilities and offices search used to locate the district serving Appomattox.

District 24 in Farmville is the state community-supervision office serving Appomattox County.

The district result should be compared with the Order of Release, sentencing court, and Virginia Parole Board decision when applicable. The office may limit what it confirms. The separate Post-Release Supervision page explains the parole and probation verification path in more depth.

Request Appomattox VADOC Release Records

When the public locator does not provide a conclusive historical answer, request an existing state record. VADOC accepts requests by mail, fax, email, in person, or telephone, though writing is preferred. Provide a name and legal address and describe the record with reasonable specificity. Use the facility, unit manager, warden, superintendent, or probation and parole district that holds the record when known.

Ask for the final Order of Release or discharge document, actual date, release type, custody status, and transfer or supervision destination when maintained and releasable. VADOC Form 17 is identified for an inactive offender’s record, and consent rules may apply. Do not assume the general public can obtain an entire inactive file. Virginia law permits withholding of specified imprisonment and supervision records, while limited status, location, and projected-date information may be available.

Note: Request the final state event by DOC number and date range; do not ask VADOC to certify a BRRJA jail release.

Confirm Appomattox State Discharge

The strongest practical proof is a final VADOC release or discharge document tied to the seven-digit DOC number. A sentencing order can explain the term and supervision. A Virginia Parole Board publication can explain parole authorization. The locator can show a timely institution-to-district change. None should be stretched beyond its purpose.

A person may leave prison by parole or discharge and still have a separate court or agency obligation. Federal, immigration, or local custody must be checked if the state record names another authority. Likewise, absence from the VADOC locator after full discharge does not prove there was no state custody. The locator’s stated scope is custody and supervision, not a permanent archive of everyone whose state authority ended.

If the locator and court appear to conflict, preserve both results and request the final state record. A disposed court case can still include active incarceration, while a district-office result can show supervision after prison release. The last custodian’s document resolves the physical state event more directly than either summary alone.

Parole
Conditional release from imprisonment under lawful Parole Board authority.
Probation
Court-ordered community supervision that can follow or replace active confinement.
Discharge
The end of the VADOC custody or supervision described by the controlling record.
Detainer
A request or legal basis for another authority to take custody.

Use precise language in the final result: transferred from BRRJA into VADOC custody, released from a VADOC institution to District 24 supervision, or fully discharged from VADOC authority. Those phrases keep an Appomattox county-jail event separate from the later state-prison release.
